The Secret of the Third Level

Our reality is multilayered – and not every level offers a path to resolution.

Two people have fallen into deep conflict. On the material level, old reflexes take hold: keeping distance, withholding gestures. A touch or a gift here would feel like a disguised purchase of peace – and only deepen the rift. At this level, the problem cannot be solved.

On the mental level, messages flow: arguments, appeals for clarification. Yet as long as anger dominates the space, arguments have no power. After the second message, the channel is blocked – and with it every bridge of language and thought. Most give up here, because they do not know the third level.

But there is a deeper level. It never blocks. Here one can quietly send something that does not intrude: goodwill. Peace. Love. There is no love without echo – genuine appreciation always leaves a trace, visible or as a subtle brightening within. It works because it is given on a channel that never closes itself to a loving message. Indispensable when words are not yet possible. The level of the heart works when all others are blocked.

And – it works not only in relationships that are intact at their core. Even where the rift is deep, this channel remains open if we follow the sequence: whoever wishes to soften an enemy will only be admitted if, even in this case, they first send love silently. This is where most withdraw – for it is counterintuitive to send love to an adversary. Yet precisely this is the only key to reaching them. Love is never blocked, not even by enemies. And sending love does not mean “to feel affection,” but to consciously choose an inner stance free of attack and devaluation. It can help to imagine simply channeling a universal love – as both door‑opener and message.

This small secret can achieve more than an entire library of counseling literature – because it begins where no door is ever locked. Perhaps this was the deeper meaning of that ancient counsel to love one’s enemies. Not as a moral duty, but as a practical instruction to use the third level – the only channel that always remains open.
